When it comes to web hosting, most people are only familiar with personal web hosting, which is also called shared hosting. Although shared hosting is the cheapest form of web hosting, it is also the least efficient because several domains are hosted on the same account. This is where VPS and dedicated become much more useful because they allow you to dedicate resources specifically for your website. In this article, we will talk about the benefits of each and what the differences between the two of them are.

The great thing about both dedicated and VPS hosting are that they are much faster and much more efficient than shared hosting. They are both relatively expensive compared to shared hosting, but this is because they have more resources and storage dedicated to them.

Dedicated Hosting
Dedicated hosting is the term used to describe the situation in which you have 1 server dedicated to 1 website. It is the most expensive form of web hosting, but it is also the fastest and most efficient. When you have a dedicated web host, your uptime is practically guaranteed and you will have a huge amount of storage and bandwidth specifically dedicated to your website. As opposed to share hosting, which shares the storage and bandwidth of a server, dedicated hosting devotes an entire server’s resources to your website.

VPS Hosting
VPS hosting differs from dedicated hosting in that it is a form of shared hosting, being that several sites are still hosted on a single server. The difference between VPS and shared hosting is that every site on a VPS server has dedicated resources, including bandwidth, memory, and hard drive storage. With VPS servers, the web hosts sets up an individual system environment on a server that is cut-off from the other sites on the server. As a result, even though the sites are on a shared server, there are individual resources allocated for each website, which boosts speed and efficiency.

Although VPS is slightly cheaper than dedicated hosting, it might be worth your while to purchase dedicated hosting if you have a popular business or e-commerce website. If you don’t need a dedicated server, then VPS hosting might be perfect for your situation.

Thank you for the info.. so many info are there over web but here i find them in a compact form and easy to learn.. will keep an eye on your web hosting blog for sure articles..

  2. I think most people prefer to go for dedicated servers because even though its costly, they will get more power and speed for their websites. VPS is also a good for those who can’t afford for dedicated servers.

There are quite big difference in both servers, but its right that most peoples prefer dedicated servers. Dedicated servers are easy to handle as user can have its rights from anywhere.

hmm quite informative…….. but i think most of the peoples preferred dedicating hosting because this is more flexible, organizations have full control over the server.

If you have a lot of traffic and need more control of the site, then dedicated hosting is certainly a much better choice. THank you for this information. I will keep following this site for more information as the things I can learn here is enormous :)

I much like a dedicated server, though it’s hard to see any difference from the two. I personally think dedi server has better performance :)

  7. It really can be frustrating to figure out what you need but the best way to figure out what you need to do is start small on a VPS and most companies will upgrade you to a dedicated should you need to do so. You can get VPS starting out about $20 a month. You can’t go wrong with it and like I said you can always grow into a full dedicated server if needed

  8. Great list! I’ll be giving a few of these a try. I’ve been looking for these sorts of plugins — great to have them all listed in one place.

At last after reading this article, i am able to understand the clear difference between dedicated hosting and VPN hosting. What i usually do is that i will take a VPN hosting, and if the site is getting good amount of traffic then i move to an dedicated hosting.

  10. In my opinion, I think that Dedicated Hosting is because it gives you a lot more freedom – You have complete access to everything that way.

  11. Sunken says:

Control is a big part of the equation, as well as security, in regards to how your web server interacts with other components. I prefer to start on a dedicated server if the application warrants it. Very good information on the differences indeed.

  12. Djusa says:

With how cheap dedicated hosting is, it makes sense to just go for dedicated hosting, and not deal with issues other users bring to the server. I use serverpronto for the server that I run. I would rather pay a little more for a dedicated server over a vps any day.

  13. Its always good to have dedicated server but only thing is u need to spend a lot amount on dedicated server. If u are monitoring a big site then u can choose it its good for the users where they can access at rapid speed.

  14. Mark says:

As a blogger with more than 60 active blogs in various forms, I’ve never found the need for a dedicated server. That being said, thanks for the information… its always good to know a little bit more about everything out there.

  15. Euro VPS says:

For me the VPS hosting is the right choice because of two reasons: it is cheaper than dedicated hosting and because I\’m a beginner. In future, if I get a good amount of traffic, I will try dedicated hosting.
