Shopping for a web host can be a lengthy process by the time that you compare prices, features, and uptime. However, when paying for web hosting, many people make the mistake of focusing solely on price rather than looking into all the features included in a package. This is especially true with free web hosting, which is often a cheap ticket towards website hell. Although cheaper prices are important, I believe it is much more important to find a webhost with guaranteed uptime, even if it costs a little bit more. Now, many web hosts do offer guaranteed uptime, but many don’t deliver what they promise.

When shopping for a web host with guaranteed uptime, you will find that most of them guarantee 99.9% uptime. Now, in some cases this is a true claim, but there are many cases where it isn’t. To check these hosts and to make sure that you keep them honest, you can do a Google search for “website uptime,” which will lead you to several tools that can give you the real uptime numbers for several popular hosts.

Even if you find a host that can’t quite live up to their claim, if their features and price are legit, then you probably can’t go wrong choosing them. However, when you find a host that overhypes their guaranteed uptime claims by 5-10% and still offers poor prices and functionality, then I would not walk but run away. The secret is to finding a web host that meets right in the middle, especially if their claims are legit.

There are a few web hosts that offer great features at a great price and once you’ve found them then I recommend not only using them, but sharing your experiences with your friends. You could also give a heads up on some popular web hosting forums so that others in your situation will learn from your experience. Although uptime isn’t always the most important factor, if you’ve got money on the line then I would put it right up there with speed. Having a server with constant uptime that runs fast is your ticket to business success.

Good and very educative information about choosing server. I agree that server uptime is definitely a very crucial component when picking a webhost and I think more attention should be given to this particular component.

Can you give any recommendation of hosts with good server uptime?

yes server uptime is important … for buying any web hosting, there are many websites for testing the server uptime. I like this to test the server up time: http://host-tracker.com/

I agree with everyone here, server uptime is THE #1 most important thing you need with a host. If it is down all the time, what is the point of paying for it?

  6. This is a parameter point which we got to pay attention. I had a terrible experience with server uptime, one of my blog were down two days for every week. This make my record looks very bad, and in the end, my unique visitor were decreased down to very low level. Just beware.

Good tips for trying to spot the deals and the scams. It really helps to know what is realistic when searching for good web hosting on a budget.

Having a high amount of downtime can really be detrimental to a site, particularly if it relies on continual user interaction to function properly. I’ve known countless forums, both fledgling and established, which through poor management of servers have lost large percentages of their users.

  9. Mark says:

Server uptime should be the most important concern. If your server goes down, you will lose a great deal more money than it costs for just one month of hosting at a quality web host.

  10. Definitely server uptime plays a significant role in website success. Especially, for e-commerce sites uptime and downtime is highly relevant because downtime could translate to lost revenues and in this highly competitive world it could very well mean your business’ survival.

Hence, it is important that you choose a web host that has a high uptime guarantee (the higher, the better). An uptime guarantee of 99.5 – 99.99% is realistic and considered to be very good in most cases.
