GoDaddy.com web hosting and domain registrar, helped boost the bottom line for the Arizona Humane Society Telethon by matching every single contribution made on the Internet.

The Scottsdale-based domain name registrar and web hosting provider also doubled its own donation with a $100,000 check delivered by none other than Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons’ dogs Max and Chief.

This is the fourth consecutive year Go Daddy delivered big for Arizona animals and in these rough economic times, when donations are more difficult to secure, Go Daddy was happy to help make a difference as the title sponsor. Total money raised in the annual telethon yesterday was more than $328,000.

Go Daddy also helped on the technical side behind the scenes, and on camera many Go Daddy employees answered telephone calls during the live broadcast. The move that really stole the show though was the company’s check delivery method, performed in GoDaddy-esque style… no, not by a Go Daddy Girl, but by the ‘Go Daddy’ dogs.

Max and Chief are Parsons’ dogs and have become regulars for the telethon’s big finish. Bob Parsons, Founder and CEO of GoDaddy noted, ”Max and Chief learn a new trick for each telethon,” referring to how Chief pulled Max in a Go Daddy chariot to deliver the $100,000 check to end the live telethon. Mr. Parsons added, ”Max and Chief even went ‘green’ this year using a chariot instead of the Go Daddy motorized car.”

Whether delivered by Border Terriers or more conventional methods, Go Daddy is continuing to make a difference in the Valley of the Sun with its charitable donations. As many companies are scaling back philanthropic donations due to the economy, Go Daddy is stepping up its charity efforts.

Guy Collison, executive director of the Arizona Humane Society remarked, ”It’s amazing to see that every year Go Daddy has been involved with the telethon they not only meet but exceed our expectations. Go Daddy keeps the telethon’s online components running smoothly and helps organize online contributions. To top it off they doubled their donation this year.”

Thousands of sick, injured and homeless animals across the state will have their lives saved or improved with the money raised through the telethon. The annual charity event not only raises much needed money for these animals, but also provides low-cost spay and neuter services and educational programs, including how to better care for pets, fight animal cruelty and adopt a pet.

Go Daddy’s philanthropic works support a wide variety of charitable and community organizations dedicated to such causes as domestic violence, child abuse, disabled children, teenage homelessness, Parkinson’s research, breast cancer and more. Go Daddy donated $1.7MM to charitable causes last year and is on pace to break its own record for 2009.

Yahoo! is hosting a landmark Business and Human Rights Summit at its Sunnyvale campus, bringing together individuals from around the world to raise awareness about freedom of expression and its enduring challenges.

The summit includes experts from the business, academic, journalist, human rights and advocacy communities – each with a unique perspective but united in a common desire to advance this fundamental right.

Michael Samway, vice president and deputy general counsel at Yahoo! noted, ”Yahoo! was founded on the belief that access to information can enrich people’s lives, and we hope this summit and our other initiatives will both stimulate greater awareness about free expression issues and bring others to this important cause.

The summit’s keynote speaker is Ory Okolloh, Kenyan blogger and the executive director of Ushahidi. Ushahidi is a crowdsourcing platform for crisis situations developed in Kenya, which now serves as a platform that allows anyone around the world to gather – and map – news about emergent situations by mobile phone, email and the web. Ushahidi has been used in Kenya, the Congo, Gaza and is currently being deployed during the 2009 Indian Lok Sabha election.

In addition, journalists and social entrepreneurs from Africa, Asia and the Middle East will address their efforts to harness the Internet’s capabilities for a range of endeavors involving the sharing of information. In a panel entitled ”Social Media and Citizen Journalists,” panelists will discuss how they have used the Internet and social media in their regions to support free expression and drive social change. The panelists include Indian blogger Gaurav Mishra and Ethiopian journalist and former prisoner of conscience Abebe Gellaw, both of whom are currently fellows at Georgetown and Stanford universities (respectively) as part of a Yahoo! initiative to facilitate scholarship on freedom of expression in the information age.

They will be joined by Ushahidi’s Okolloh, Bahraini journalist Amira Al Husseini, and panel moderator Rebecca MacKinnon, former CNN Beijing and Tokyo bureau chief.

Mr. MacKinnon added, ”As more people around the world turn to the Internet to advocate for human rights, the challenges they face from governments and other powerful entities are also growing more complex and sophisticated. The stories told by our panelists about online activism in Asia, Africa and the Middle East are inspiring. They also show how decisions made by Internet and telecommunications companies can have a big impact on what is and isn’t possible.”

The summit is an outgrowth of Yahoo!’s recent leadership role in co-founding the Global Network Initiative (GNI), an organization of information and communications technology companies, human rights organizations, academics, investors and technology leaders dedicated to protecting and advancing freedom of expression and privacy in the information and communication technology industry.

The Global Network Initiative (GNI) was formed to help stakeholders in the technology industry uphold the rights of freedom of expression and privacy in the face of pressures from governments to comply with laws and policies that violate these internationally recognized human rights.

Leslie Harris, President and CEO of the Center for Democracy and Technology remarked, ”It takes a proactive, collaborative approach to make significant progress on promoting free expression and Yahoo! has been a thoughtful and committed partner. This summit gives us a great forum to discuss how GNI can help companies around the world to address the complex challenges at the intersection of human rights and technology.”

GNI member companies have committed to protect freedom of expression and privacy, partner with others to ensure collective governance and accountability, and promote GNI objectives throughout the world. GNI participants engage with governments and advocate for change where policies or practices are inconsistent with the protection of free expression and privacy.

At the Summit, a number of GNI participants will participate in a panel – ”The GNI’s Multi-Stakeholder Approach”, including:

  • Chuck Cosson, Senior Policy Counsel, Microsoft
  • Nicole Wong, Deputy General Counsel, Google
  • Leslie Harris, President and CEO, Center for Democracy and Technology; Dunstan Hope, Managing Director, ICT Practice, Advisory Services, Business for Social Responsibility
  • Colin Maclay, Managing Director, Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society
  • Rob Mahoney, Deputy Director, Committee to Protect Journalists
  • Ebele Okobi-Harris, Director, Business and Human Rights Program, Yahoo!

The panel will discuss the goals and principles of the GNI and the ways in which the GNI helps provide clear guidance for technology companies facing threats to freedom of expression around the world.

Yahoo! was founded on the principle that promoting access to information can improve lives and advance human rights around the world.

In addition to the formation of the GNI, Yahoo! has continued its own efforts to support user privacy and free expression by:

  • Establishing the Yahoo! Business and Human Rights Program, which brings together an international, cross-functional core team of professionals – including legal, security, government affairs, public affairs, product and emerging markets, among others – to integrate human rights into our business decisions.
  • Developing and instituting a Human Rights Impact Assessment process that includes engaging with external stakeholders, and designing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Working with noted human rights activist Harry Wu to establish a human rights fund to provide humanitarian and legal support to political dissidents who have been imprisoned for expressing their views online, as well as support for their families.
  • Engaging with governments to secure the release of certain political dissidents through ongoing discussions with high-ranking U.S. and Chinese officials, human rights groups, and the State Department.
  • Establishing international fellowships at Stanford University and Georgetown University to support scholarship about free expression in press-restrictive countries and about the intersection of human rights and communication technology.

Yahoo! Inc. is a leading global Internet brand and one of the most trafficked Internet destinations worldwide. Yahoo! is focused on powering its communities of users, advertisers, publishers, and developers by creating indispensable experiences built on trust. Web hosting domain registrar provider, Go Daddy, recently signed for a major NASCAR event, as a Presenting Sponsor of the Southern 500.

Bob Parsons, CEO and Founder of Go Daddy explained, ”This is a tremendous time to be out there – advertising, sponsoring events. Darlington is a great track, celebrating 60 years of racing this season. The fact many traditional sponsors are shying away because of the economy creates a great opportunity for Go Daddy.”

The Southern 500 presented by GoDaddy.com takes place Saturday at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina, as an iconic race returning to a legendary track. The event was slated to run without a presenting sponsor until Go Daddy signed on. A tough economy – full of fiscal belt-tightening – has made sponsorships hard to come by for both tracks and teams this season. NASCAR fans will watch the return of this historic 500-mile race on a track awash in green and black Go Daddy banners.

Go Daddy expanded its NASCAR commitment in 2009 – increasing sponsorships in both the Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series. The company also produced several new commercials with Go Daddy spokesman and NASCAR’s most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and fellow driver, Brad Keselowski, and now, the Internet giant takes on title sponsorship at Darlington.

Beyond having Go Daddy’s name on the Southern 500, Parsons hopes to have a driver in the race as well. Brad Keselowski will attempt to qualify in the No. 25 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series race.

Go Daddy, the world’s dominant Web hosting domain registrar, has seen tremendous gains in the midst of recent recessionary times. Unlike many U.S. companies, Go Daddy is expanding – hiring 300 employees in the first three months of this year. With 35 million domains under management and 6.6 million customers, Go Daddy is thriving. The key to Go Daddy’s success is providing people and businesses with turn-key solutions to all their Web site needs and backing those products and services with industry-best 24/7 personalized customer care.

Go Daddy is a world leader in domain registration, web hosting and design, SSL Certificates and eCommerce. The company offers more than 50 products aimed at enhancing everyone’s online image quickly and affordably.
